Figaro receives Cadet Nationals champion award at special ceremony in Brandon, Fla.

Wally Figaro of Brandon, Fla. received his USA Wrestling championship award for winning the 2008 Cadet National Greco-Roman Championships at 145 pounds in a special ceremony on Saturday, January 24 at Brandon High School.
Figaro, who is a sophomore wrestler at Brandon High School, received his USA Wrestling "stop-sign" champion plaque from Bill Grant, the state chairperson of the Florida Amateur Wrestling Association, as well as the legendary Russ Cozart, head coach for the Brandon High School wrestling team.
Figaro was named champion at the 145-pound division after the official results were changed, based upon the disqualification of an ineligible athlete.
Cadets are wrestlers who are 15 and 16 years old.
In addition to winning the Cadet National Greco-Roman title in 2008, Figaro was also eighth in the 2008 Cadet Nationals in freestyle. He was also a Cadet Nationals Greco-Roman All-American in 2007, placing eighth at 145 pounds.
Figaro placed third in the 2008 Florida state high school championships at 145 pounds with a 58-7 record.
