COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Bryce Hasseman's return to Colorado Springs produced the result he was looking for.

But the former resident-athlete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center realizes he still has a lot of work to do before he achieves his goals this season.

Hasseman overcame a slow start, dropping the first period before earning a 0-1, 1-0, 3-0 win over Eric Luedke in the men's freestyle finals of the Dave Schultz Memorial International Open.

Hasseman body-locked and dumped Luedke to the mat for three points in the closing seconds to win the title at 84 kg/185 lbs. on Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

"It took me a long time to get my offense going," Hasseman said. "I know that when I shoot I can score. What it boils down to is not being hesitant in my offense. I have to get to my leg attacks and wrestle for six minutes straight."

Hasseman was one of three American champions crowned as the three-day event included. U.S. women's freestyle wrestlers Stephany Lee and Elena Pirozhkova also captured championships.

Hasseman was named Outstanding Wrestler in men's freestyle and Lee was honored as OW in women's freestyle.

Lee, a 2008 World Univerity champion, downed 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Agnieszka Wieszczek of Poland 1-1, 2-1 in the finals at 72 kg/158.5 lbs.

"There are moments where I relax a little bit and I need to stop doing that," Lee said. "That's where I get scored on when I relax. I just have to keep battling and not give up the fight. Just when you think they are going to score, you have to keep fighting, and that's how I am. I never stop defending my leg."

Pirozhkova, a 2008 World Team member, beat fellow American Veronica Carlson 2-0, 3-0 in the women's finals at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.

"This is awesome," Pirozhkova said. "Coming into the tournament, I saw all the girls who weighed in and there were a lot of tough girls."

American Leigh Jaynes dropped a 1-0, 1-0 match to Canada's Brittanee Laverpure in the women's freestyle finals at 55 kg/121 lbs. Laverpure placed fifth in the last two World Championships.

2008 Olympic gold medalist Carol Huynh of Canada capped a dominating performance with a pin over Canadian Alana King in the finals. Huynh won her third Schultz title.

Spenser Mango was named Outstanding Wrestler in Greco-Roman on Saturday.

Team champions included Russia (men's freestyle), New York AC (Greco-Roman) and Canada (women's freestyle).
