COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - It was one of the biggest moments of Trent Paulson's wrestling life.

And one of the most emotional.

One night after watching his best friend and twin brother Travis fall in the freestyle finals, Trent Paulson came through by winning the U.S. World Team Trials on Sunday night at the Mid-America Center.

With the win at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Trent qualifies for September's World Championships in Herning, Denmark.

"It was bittersweet," said Trent, a 2007 NCAA champion for Iowa State. "It was sweet to make the team. But I don't want to be on the World Team without my brother."

Trent Paulson was one of 10 champions crowned as the two-day event concluded in Council Bluffs.

One of the biggest ovations of the night came when World University champion Tervel Dlagnev outlasted Olympian Steve Mocco in three hard-fought matches in the freestyle finals at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.

Dlagnev, a two-time NCAA Division II champion at nearby University of Nebraska at Kearney, was bolstered by a large and vocal crowd cheering him on late Sunday night.

"This is just amazing," Dlagnev said. "It's a great feeling to get this done. The support here by all the people who came to watch me was great."

2009 Hodge Trophy winner Jake Herbert continued his amazing run by making his first World Team in freestyle at 84 kg/185 lbs. Herbert, a past World University bronze medalist, beat Bryce Hasseman in three matches in the finals.

Also in freestyle, 35-year-old Danny Felix made his first World Team by outlasting Nick Simmons in three matches in the finals at 55 kg/121 lbs.

"This is indescribable," Felix said. "I've been waiting for this for a long time. I'm going to represent the U.S. and make everybody proud."

2008 World women's freestyle champion Clarissa Chun continued her run of success by sweeping Alyssa Lampe in the finals at 48 kg/105.5. Chun, fifth in the 2008 Olympics, threw and pinned Lampe just 17 seconds into the second bout.

"I didn't want it to go another match - I just wanted to get it done," Chun said. "I'm still hungry. I'm definitely stoked to want to repeat as World champion. I know it's hard, but I'm ready for the challenge."

2008 World bronze medalist Tatiana Padilla dropped the first match before coming back to down past World Team member Leigh Jaynes to win the women's freestyle title at 55 kg/121 lbs.

"Last year, I took third at Worlds, but I wasn't satisfied," Padilla said. "I want to win the gold this year."

In Greco-Roman competition, Faruk Sahin of the U.S. Army made his first World Team by downing Mark Rial at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.

R.C. Johnson, a training partner for Olympic bronze medalist Adam Wheeler last year in Beijing, China, also made his first World Team by beating Peter Gounaridis at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.

Jeremiah Davis made his first World team by sweeping Glenn Garrison in the Greco-Roman finals at 60 kg/132 lbs.
