UPDATED: Campbell wins bronze at Poland Open; Rey is fifth at Ziolkowski International

WARSAW, Poland - Kelsey Campbell (Milwaukie, Ore./Sunkist Kids) won a bronze medal at 59 kg/130 lbs. in women's freestyle wrestling. on the final day of the Poland Open.
Competitors from most of the world's most successful women's wrestling programs are entered in this prestigious pre-World Championships tuneup event.
Campbell defeated Iryna Khariv of Ukraine, 1-0, 3-0 in the bronze-medal match.
Campbell opened with a 2-0, 3-0 victory over Yvonne Englich of Germany, 2-0, 3-0, then stopped 2006 World bronze medalist Alka Tomar of India, 1-0, 1-0. In the quarterfinals, she was defeated by 2005 World silver medalist Marianna Sastin of Hungary, 1-0, 0-1, 1-0. When Sastin qualified for the finals, Campbell was drawn back into the repechage rounds.
Campbell defeated 2004 European silver medalist Sabrina Esposito of Italy, 0-1, 1-0, 1-0 to earn a place in the bronze-medal match against Khariv.
A student at Arizona State, Campbell won the 2009 U.S. Nationals title and placed second at the U.S. World Team Trials at this weight class.
"Kelsey had a good tournament," said National Women's Coach Terry Steiner. "For her, it was her first World Championship level event. She wrestled each match to the last whistle. She has worked all summer with the U.S. World Team, so she has continued to improve all summer."
The three other U.S. women wrestlers competing on Friday lost a preliminary bout and were eliminated from medal contention when their opponents did not reach the finals. They were Jessica Medina (Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC) at 51 kg/112.25 lbs., Deanna Rix (Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC) at 59 kg/130 lbs. and Leigh Jaynes (Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC) at 55 kg/121 lbs.
Medina and Rix are members of the 2009 U.S. Women's World Team.
In the two-day tournament, the USA won three medals. Elena Pirozhkova (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) won a gold medal at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. and Ali Bernard (New Ulm, Minn./Gator WC) won a bronze medal at 72 kg/158.5 lbs. on Thursday.
The United States finished fifth in the team standings with 28 points. Russia won the team title with 68 points, followed by Ukraine, Poland and Belarus.
"We found some things we need to focus on before the World Championships for each athlete, and that was the purpose of this trip," said Steiner. "I want to thank USA Wrestling and our clubs for making this trip possible. We will now go back to work and fine tune for the Worlds in September."
Zach Rey (Hopatcong, N.J./Lehigh Valley AC) has placed fifth at 120kg/264.5 lbs. at the Ziolkowski International, a Senior men's freestyle tournament held alongside the Poland Open.
Rey had a 2-2 record in the tournament. He was defeated in his bronze-medal match by Maksim Porhorov of Azerbaijan.
He won his first two matches against veteran opponents from Turkey, Fatih Cakiroglu and Recep Kara. He was defeated in the semifinals by Marid Mutalimov of Kazakhstan. Rey competes for Lehigh University.
U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete Mike Tamillow (Colorado Springs, Colo./NYAC), placed eighth at 84 kg/185 lbs. with a 2-2 record. Both of his losses were against opponents from Russia. Tamillow is a graduate of Northwestern Univ.
The U.S. placed 11th in the 24 nation tournament with 13 points. Also placing for the USA on Thursday was Oklahoma State student Clayton Foster (Kamiah, Idaho/Gator WC), who was seventh at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Iran won the team title.
