COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The U.S. Women's Team will travel to Poland for an international training camp and major competition, August 3-15. This is in preparation for the World Championship in Denmark in September.
The camp is being held in Warsaw, Poland at one of Poland's Olympic Training Centers and will consist of a number of top women's wrestling teams: Poland, France, Italy, Germany, Belarus, Ukraine, Sweden, and Canada.
The U.S. Women's World Team also took a training and competition tour to Canada in July, competing in the Canada Cup.
"I believe that with two competitions this summer, we stay in that competition mindset that will set us well for September," said Steiner.
The training camp will end August 11 and the Poland Open competition will be August 13-14.
Six of the U.S. World Team members will be competing in Poland including Clarissa Chun at 48kg, Jessica Medina at 51kg, Tatiana Padilla at 55kg, Deanna Rix at 59kg, Elena Pirozhkov at 63kg, and Ali Bernard at 72kg.
Chun was a 2008 World Champion and Padilla won a 2008 World bronze medal. Bernard and Chun were fifth at 2008 Olympics.
Also traveling with the team to compete are National Team members Leigh Jaynes at 55kg and Kelsey Campbell at 63kg.
World Team member Adeline Gray at 67kg will not attend the Poland Tour. She will instead compete at the Junior World Championships in Ankara, Turkey, August 4-9.
U.S. Women's National Coach Terry Steiner has high expectations of his team and is looking forward for more preparation for the Worlds. Steiner believes the Poland Tour will provide opportunities for the team to test themselves.
"We must continue in our working fashion, being professional, on task, and to the point," said Steiner.
