TAIYUAN, China - The United States defeated Russia, 6-1, to capture fifth place at the Women's World Cup on Saturday.
The USA won the first six matches of the dual meet for a convincing victory to close out the competition, which is the annual international dual meet championships.
The U.S finished the World Cup with a 2-2 record, defeating Belarus 7-0 and losing to China 6-1 and Japan 4-3 on Friday.
Three U.S. wrestlers won three of their four matches during the weekend, Stephany Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 72 kg/158.5 lbs., Helen Maroulis (Rockville, Md./New York AC) at 51 kg/112.25 lbs. and Deanna Rix (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 59 kg/130 lbs.
All three were also members of the 2008 U.S. World Team.
China captured the team title, defeating Canada in the championship dual meet, 5-2. Japan placed third with a 6-1 victory over Ukraine. Mongolia was seventh, stopping Belarus, 5-2.
