The winner of the U.S. Nationals the last two years, Marcie Van Dusen has taken big strides this season. After placing ninth in the World last year, Van Dusen made history by defeating Olympic and World champion and previously undefeated Saori Yoshida of Japan. She also qualified the USA for this weight at the Olympics in a Qualifying Tournament in Canada. Heading into the Olympic Trials, she has renewed confidence based upon this success.

2003 World bronze medalist Jenny Wong moved up from 112.25 pounds this year, and finished a strong second at the U.S. Nationals. A three-time U.S. World Team member, Wong has extensive experience internationally. Placing third at the U.S. Nationals was two-time World bronze medalist Sally Roberts, who has made the drop down from 130 pounds. Roberts has won two international events at her new weight class, and competes with power and passion.

Rebounding after a disappointing 2007 season has been two-time World silver medalist Tina George, who placed fourth at the U.S. Nationals. High school sensation Tatiana Padilla, who was second in the 2007 U.S. World Team Trials at 130 pounds, dropped to 121 and placed fifth at the U.S. Nationals. Rounding out the top seven at U.S. Nationals were Shyla Iokia and Chelynne Pringle.

Leigh Jaynes, 2007 National champion and World Team member at 130 pounds, has also dropped down to this weight. Sharon Jacobson, a 2006 U.S. Nationals champion at 121 pounds, is also a serious threat. College Nationals champion Sandy Do will challenge, as will Cherae Pascua, the University Nationals champion. A number of wrestlers may drop down from 130 pounds, led by national champion Erin Tomeo, plus Othella Lucas, Deanna Rix and Kelsey Campbell.
