FARGO, N.D. - Nate Moore looks, acts and talks like an Iowa Hawkeye.
He has a business-like, no-nonsense approach when he steps on the mat. He punishes opponents with a hard-nosed, relentless attack that is the foundation of Iowa's approach.
And while many graduated high school seniors are bypassing the Junior Nationals this week, Moore is here in Fargo for one reason.
"It's a national tournament," he said. "There's another national title to win."
Moore, a past Iowa City West standout and University of Iowa recruit, breezed through his first two freestyle matches at 130 pounds on Thursday. He recorded an 11-second pin and a technical fall in his first two matches of the tournament.
Moore is looking to repeat as Junior Nationals champion. He won the title at 125 last year. He is the cousin of past Hawkeye NCAA champion Cliff Moore.
"It was real inspirational watching Cliff wrestle for Iowa," Nate said. "It's been my dream to follow him and wrestle for Iowa."
Nate Moore has spent much of the summer training in the University of Iowa wrestling room. Iowa won the NCAA team title in 2008 to capture its first title in eight years.
"There are obviously some tough guys in there," he said. "You have to really fight to score against those guys."
Moore looks like a perfect fit for Coach Tom Brands and his program.
"I'm real excited about wrestling for Iowa," he said. "They have a great coaching staff and a lot of real good wrestlers in the room. Coach Brands brings the same intensity to the room every single day.
