Northern Colorado wrestlers to host

In late 2003 and early 2004 the University of Northern Colorado wrestling team undertook a large project that had nothing to do with their time on the mat. The team held a fundraiser for Zac's Legacy Foundation and more specifically Dax Remple, who at that time was 21-months-old.

Remple was diagnosed with leukemia at 15-months and his family drove him twice a week to Denver for treatments at the Children's Hospital. On January 16, 2004, the wrestling team collected $10,000 for the Foundation. Each member of the team shaved their head in support, and the student-athlete that raised the most money was able to shave head coach Jack Maughan's head at the conclusion of the match. Richard Lohr won that right.

Unfortunately, Remple has had a relapse and must begin the grueling treatments again. The Bears' wrestling team is again stepping up to help raise money and awareness for leukemia and need your help.

The team will be holding a "Takedown Childhood Cancer" clinic on Oct. 20 and Oct. 27 with all proceeds going to Zac's Legacy Foundation and Remple. The cost is just $10 and the clinic is open to all ages and experience levels.

Zac's Legacy Foundation, Inc. is a unique family oriented childhood cancer fund that helps alleviate some of the financial burden incurred while being treated for cancer. Cancer treatments such as operations, chemotherapy, radiation, and bone marrow transplants put a significant financial stress on Colorado families' personal needs. The Foundation's mission is to assist these families struggling with childhood cancer.
