USA takes fifth at Swiss Grand Prix

Five athletes representing the U.S. took fifth at the Swiss Grand Prix, in Martigny, Switzerland.
Tommy Rowlands (Columbus, Ohio/Sunkist Kids) won the gold medal at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. In the gold medal match, Rowlands defeated Maksymilian Witek of Poland, 3-3, 2-0. Leading up to the final match, he beat Markus Hamann of Germany, 4-0, 1-0, Baljit Kooner of Great Britain, 6-0, 5-0 and Celik Fatih of Turkey, 0-1, 1-0, 2-0.
Ben Ashmore of Greenville, Texas, took third at 55 kg/121 lbs. In his first match, Ashmore lost to Tim Schleicher of Germany, 1-4, 0-2. Ashmore wrestled in the repechage round and beat Marcin Pawlak of Poland, 3-1, 2-1.
Joe Heskett (Columbus, Ohio/Gator WC), took 16th place at 74 kg/163 lbs. Heskett lost to Ivan Fundora of Cuba, 0-4, 3-0, 0-4 in his first round. Heskett made the repechage round and lost to Sergnet Rondon of Cuba, 0-2, 2-3.
Chad Ravannack (Metairie, La) and Neil Erisman (Olathe, Kan.), two freshmen from Oklahoma State University, also competed in the tournament. Ravannack, who competes at 133 lbs. in college, took 18th place at 60 kg/132 lbs. He lost his first match to Pius Zberg of Switzerland.
Erisman took 11th place at 74 kg/163 lbs. Erisman, who wrestles at 165 lbs. in college, won his first match against Carlos Dominguez of Spain, 3-2, 1-2, 4-2. He lost his next match to Tomar Shokinder of India, 3-3, 1-3.
