Returning finalists dominate opponents in the first session of Cadet Nationals freestyle

FARGO, N.D. - The first session of the Accelerade Cadet National Championships saw no major upsets among the returning Cadet National finalists who returned this year at this division.

All three returning Cadet freestyle wrestlers returned with dominance, Jamie Clark of Ohio at 105 pounds, Logan Stieber of Ohio at 112 pounds and Andrew Alton of Pennsylvania (135).

Clark scored a 6-0, 6-0 technical fall over Sean Boylan of New Jersey and a pin over Sean Soliz of Oregon, 3-0, 1:40.

Stieber opened up with three wins, stopping Nick Schenk of Maryland, 5-0, 5-0, then getting two technical falls, beating Jacob Nealy of Indiana, 7-0, 6-0 and Tyler Watts of Pennsylvania, 7-0, 7-0.

Alton reeled off three straight pins, taking out Adam Morrell of Maryland in 19 seconds, Kevin Matyas of New York, 6-0, 0:26 and Jarret Hoeppner of Minnesota in 50 seconds.

All three returning runner-ups are also unbeaten.

Sharky Slyter of Kansas went 2-0 at 105 pounds, beating Bryce Lynn of Iowa, 6-0, 5-3 then pinning Tanner Hummel of Minnesota, 7-0, 0:25.

At 119, returning runner-up Josh Kindig of Pennsylvania had three lopsided wins, with a pin over Logan Cudd of Wisconsin in 23 seconds, then getting technical falls over Ty Davis of Ohio, 6-0, 6-0 and Tyler Lusht of New York, 7-0, 6-0. Kindig was

Chris Villalonga of New Jersey, a returning runner-up competing this year at 119 pounds, also controlled his opponents easily. He scored a technical fall over Cameron Wagner of Iowa, 6-0, 10-1 then pinned Jordan Brewer of Oregon in 35 seconds.

The field is loaded with past All-Americans and other athletes with success in major USA Wrestling events. There are 23 returning Cadet All-Americans from last year in freestyle. In addition, all of the Cadet National Greco-Roman champions from Sunday night are entered in the tournament except one.

Competition begins Tuesday night at 5:00 p.m.
