This week's edition of "On the Mat" will feature Jamie Moffatt and Bill Nelson.
"On the Mat" is a weekly wrestling radio program that airs every Wednesday night. This week's broadcast can be heard live from 6-7 p.m. Central Standard Time. The Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum in Waterloo, Iowa, hosts the show.
Moffatt will be discussing his recently published book "Wrestlers at the Trials." The book has already received several outstanding reviews in advance of its recent release. Moffatt also co-authored the book "A Turning Point," a story of the 1953 NCAA wrestling championship won by Penn State.
"Wrestlers at the Trial" examines the people and events of the Olympic Trials from 1960-1988.
While competing for State College of Iowa (now Northern Iowa), Bill Nelson won three NCAA titles in 1947, 1949, and 1950 and three national AAU titles in 1948, 1949, and 1950.
At the end of his sophomore year, the Panther wrestling star qualified for the 1948 Olympic Games but was unable to compete due to an injury. He was also the head coach at Arizona before the school dropped wrestling.
On December 16, Nelson - along with 17 other NCAA wrestling champions from Northern Iowa - will be honored at halftime of UNI versus Iowa State Dual.
"On the Mat" can be heard live on the Internet at www.kcnzam.com or locally in Northeast Iowa on 1650, The Fan. Feel free to e-mail radio@wrestlingmuseum.org with questions or comments about the show.
