COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Wrestling is excited to introduce a new youth wrestling series designed to provide wrestlers a chance to compete against the best in the country in America's most popular style of wrestling. The Folkstyle Tour of America youth wrestling series kicks off with the first-ever Carolina Classic slated for November 3rd at the Cabarrus Arena in Concord, North Carolina. Dates and locations are being finalized on three other tournaments in Utah, Michigan, and the West Coast.
USA Wrestling recognizes the need to offer opportunities outside the traditional Olympic styles of wrestling and continues to make strides towards providing opportunities in folkstyle wrestling. The goals of the Series are to create interest and attract new members who previously only recognized USA Wrestling as a freestyle and Greco-Roman organization; to provide USA Wrestling membership with quality and consistent folkstyle events on a national level; and to enhance and expand USA Wrestling's event programming.
USA Wrestling has combined the successful practices of other folkstyle series and tournaments, the resources of its internal staff, and the efforts of a promoter to develop a series of folkstyle wrestling that will further propel the organization into the forefront of youth wrestling.
Coaches, athletes and fans are encouraged to visit the Folkstyle Tour of America website and subscribe to the Series e-mail list to get exciting news and tournament updates.

FOLKSTYLE TOUR OF AMERICA Q AND A:
Why is USA Wrestling moving outside of the traditional Olympic styles?
It's about identifying the desires of the wrestling public and consistently looking for new ways to develop and improve the organization. We recognize that folkstyle is the most popular style of wrestling in the United States and it's important that USA Wrestling meets the needs of the marketplace to build its base and provide new, exciting programs and competition opportunities.
Will Folkstyle replace Freestyle and Greco-Roman for youth?
No! USA Wrestling is committed to the development of athletes in the Olympic styles of wrestling. The goal of USA Wrestling has remained the same, to be the best wrestling country in the world. However, we are constantly striving to find new avenues to reach the goal. By encouraging youth wrestlers to become members of USA Wrestling and to compete in folkstyle we hope to bridge the gap between folkstyle and the Olympic styles. We continue to encourage states to create opportunities in Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. To that end, USA Wrestling expects its state leaders, coaches and clubs directors will continue to expose kids to all styles of wrestling while recognizing that the Olympic styles are an integral part of the organization.
What does the Folkstyle Tour of America offer?
Dedicated website (www.usafolkstyle.com) that includes tournament information, event registration and hotel registration.
Unique awards for the top six place winners in the Bantam thru High School divisions.
Special awards and recognition for wrestlers who win multiple Folkstyle Tour of America series tournaments.
Full-size mats and digital clocks at every tournament.
Consistent age groups and weight divisions at all series tournaments.
Certified officials for all age divisions.
Tournament registration, bracketing, and immediate event results provided by TrackWrestling.
Where can I get more information about the series?
All information will be available at www.usafolkstyle.com, USA Wrestling's new website dedicated to the Folkstyle Tour of America. We encourage you to sign up for the e-mail list at the home page in order to receive continual updates on the Series and tournaments.
Will the Folkstyle Tour of America replace the Ultimate Challenger Series?
No! The Ultimate Challenge Series tournaments will continue as they have the past several years. USA Wrestling has decided to create the Folkstyle Tour of America to enhance its folkstyle opportunities, not to eliminate what has already been a very successful series of tournaments.
Will participants need a USA Wrestling card to compete in the Series?
Yes. USA Wrestling membership will be required to participate in any of the Folkstyle Tour of America tournaments. Additionally, a USA Wrestling Coach's membership will be required in order to be eligible for a floor pass.
What will be the cost?
The entry fee will be $35. Pre-registration/payment will be required. Admission and coach's floor passes will be charged at the tournament.
Cap on Participation: The first year of the Series we are putting a cap on the number of entries to ensure participant numbers remain at a level that will allow us to run a smooth and efficient tournament in a one day format with night-before weigh-ins.
Tournament Staff: USA Wrestling staff will work with local volunteers to ensure the tournament has consistency at each of its four tournament sites. We will be using local teams and clubs to fill staff positions. Compensation for clubs and teams has been built into the budget. If your club or team is interested in providing table help, floor security, ticket takers, and other miscellaneous responsibilities, send an email to info@usafolkstyle.com.
