NEW YORK, N.Y. – A pair of young U.S. stars who train together at the U.S. Olympic Training Center won gold medals in Greco-Roman on the final day of the Bill Farrell Memorial International, held at the New York Athletic Club on Saturday.

U.S. champions were Kamal Bey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 75 kg/165 lbs. and G’Angelo Hancock (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 98 kg/215 lbs.

Bey opened up his impressive offense with a 15-5 technical fall over Egypt’s Karim Hawash at the 3:00 mark. Bey fell behind 4-0 after a Hawash throw early in the match, then powered back with some big throws of his own, including two four-point throws. He scored 15 of the next 16 points in the match.

“He came out good. He threw me for four right off the bat. You just keep wrestling. I’ve been wrestling 15 years and he has been doing it a long time. I knew he was trying to go with throws. I have been working with technique with T.C. (Dantzler). When he tries to go, step over, flip your hips and throw him to his back,” said Bey

Hancock scored points on two passivity penalties to stop Hayden Zillmer (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm), 2-0. Hancock controlled the pummeling and position throughout the bout. Hancock is currently No. 3 on the Greco-Roman National Team at 98 kg, while Zillmer is No. 3 down at 85 kg/187.25 lbs.

“I went in there with a game plan. Ben Provisor, a good friend of mine, said ‘Tracy, here in the finals, stay tight and stay focused. When he reaches in, that is the opportunity to score. He said he was going to be a laid back guy, not attack to often, and he was right,” said Hancock.

Both Bey and Hancock were members of the 2015 U.S. Junior World Team, where Hancock won a Junior World bronze medal.

U.S. athletes were beaten in three other finals matches by foreign athletes, with gold medals going to Shota Tanokura of Japan (57 kg), Ktsuyoshi Kawase of Japan (66 kg) and Minseok Kim of Korea (130 kg).

Tanokura beat Hayden Tuma in the finals, 4-3. Kawase beat Austin Morrow by pin. Kim stopped Eric Fader, 7-0

There was an all-international finals at 85 kg/187.25 lbs. between 2009 World bronze medalist Aliaksandr Kikiniou of Belarus and Alan Vera of Cuba, which ended 2-2, with Kikiniou winning by criteria. Vera lives and trains in Florida with the Florida Jets.
