New York, N.Y. – Times Square and wrestling.  Up until a few years ago, those two items hadn’t gone together.  That all changed in 2011 when Beat the Streets New York hosted a dual meet featuring top American wrestlers against international stars in Times Square, the first sports event ever held in this historic location.  There have been four international wrestling events held in Times Square in the past.

In a prelude to next month’s Beat the Streets where U.S. Olympians will be highlighted in matches against Iran, Canada and Korea, tomorrow’s matches will take place in conjunction with the United States Olympic Committee’s 100 Days Out celebration

The celebration, which features demonstrations from other Olympic and Paralympic sports, will include three wrestling matches in the Olympic styles – one Greco-Roman, men’s freestyle, and women’s freestyle match.  The commentators for the matches will be 2016 Olympians and World champions Adeline Gray and Kyle Snyder.

Competing in the women's match will be one former and one current WCWA women’s college wrestling star. The women’s freestyle match will pit a pair of 4th place finishers at this month’s Olympic Team Trials, as Kayla Miracle (Campbellsville, KY) will face off against Amanda Hendey (Beaumont, CA). Miracle attends Campbellsville University, where she is a two-time WCWA national champion, while Hendey has graduated from King University, where she won a WCWA national title.

In the two men's matches, four Army West Point cadets will compete. In the Greco-Roman match, NCAA qualifier Samson Imonode (Phoenix, AZ) will take on Tony Risaliti (Ebensburg, PA), whereas Lincoln Mallinger (Champlin, MN) will battle Logan Everett (Tioga, PA) in a men’s freestyle match.
The general public can come to Times Square on Wednesday starting after 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The event is free and open to the public. Wrestling won’t be the only sport taking place in Times Square, as wrestling will be featured alongside other Olympic and Paralympic sports.  The three wrestling matches will be contested at 5:25 p.m., following a demonstration by USA Judo.  Other sports that will be part of the celebration include basketball, boxing, field hockey, goal ball, gymnastics, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, trampolining and weightlifting.
