Tamyra Mensah-Stock (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC/USOPTC) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Jan. 12, 2021.

All eyes were on an outstanding FloWrestling card this weekend, where the headlining match featured five-time World champion Adeline Gray vs. 2019 World champion Tamyra Mensah-Stock.

Mensah-Stock, a 2019 World champ and 2018 World bronze medalist at 68 kg, bumped up a weight class, 76 kg, to challenge Gray, the first five-time World champ in USA Wrestling history.

The superstar matchup ultimately came down to one sequence. Midway through the first period, Mensah-Stock fired off a low-level shot which she transitioned into a leg lace, picking up two points for the takedown and another two points for the exposure. For the remainder of the match, Mensah-Stock stymied all of Gray’s attempted leg attacks, utilizing near-perfect positioning to keep one of the greatest American wrestlers of all time at bay.

It was the first time that the two had met up since the 2017 Dave Schultz Memorial finals, where Gray won 8-0.

Fans can watch Mensah-Stock back in action this weekend at the Henri Deglane Grand Prix in France, which will be broadcast live on FloWrestling.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.

To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Manager of Communications Taylor Miller at tmiller@usawrestling.org.
