Janida Garcia selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Janida Garcia (Lathorp, Cali./Swamp Monsters) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Dec. 22, 2020.
Competing at the USA Wrestling Tour of America - Stockyard Stampede, Janida Garcia entered the tournament ranked No. 5 at 138 pounds in the Girls High School rankings and pinned her way to a title at 132 pounds in the high school girls division. She spent a total of 6:02 on the mat.
In her first bout, Garcia went head-to-head with Mikayla Wallace, who is ranked No. 25 at 132 pounds. Garcia needed only 2:28 to secure the fall.
In the semifinals, she pinned Madison Bye in 1:10 to advance to the gold-medal match. There, she took down Khailey Toney in 2:34 to win the title.
Garcia has been actively competing on the USA Wrestling circuit, winning her brackets at the Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals in November and Western State Championships in August.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.
