Jason Nolf selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week
by Taylor Miller, USA Wrestling
Jason Nolf (Yatesboro, Pa./Penn State) has been selected as TheMat.com Athlete of the Week on Jan. 15, 2019.
The two-time NCAA champion from Penn State put together a great weekend in dual appearances, claiming two wins.
Nolf, who has dominated the field at 157 pounds the last few seasons, began his weekend, taking on No. 3 Ryan Deakin of Northwestern. The PSU senior recorded eight takedowns en route to a 19-7 major decision and Nolf’s 100th career win.
On Sunday against Wisconsin, Nolf scored 11 takedowns over Devin Bahr for a 25-10 technical fall, ultimately helping Penn State to a team win—its 51st-consecutive dual win.
Nolf is 15-0 on the year with a 100 percent bonus-win rate, including nine falls.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.
To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Communications Coordinator Taylor Miller at tmiller@usawrestling.org.
