Dalton Roberts selected at USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week
by Taylor Miller, USA Wrestling
Dalton Roberts (Fowlerville, Mich./New York AC) has been selected as TheMat.com Athlete of the Week for Aug. 14, 2018.
According to the U.S. Greco-Roman National Team coaches, Roberts, the 2018 Senior Greco World Team member at 60 kg, had an outstanding week of World Team training camp, which was held at the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas last week.
The camp was designed for the Junior and Senior World Teams to help create a plan of action to successfully execute at the World Championships and leading up to the event.
“Dalton puts all of his effort into everything he does,” Greco-Roman National Team Head Coach Matt Lindland said. “He focuses on the things he can control, which is attitude and effort. He does a great job of being a good leader and setting a great example for the entire team. The rest of the team has looked up to him.”
Roberts is a veteran when it comes to representing Team USA on the World stage. He competed for the U.S. at the 2012 Cadet Worlds, 2015 and 2016 Junior Worlds and 2017 U23 Worlds; however, this October will mark his first trip to the Senior World Championships, which will take place in Budapest, Hungary.
Until then, Roberts and the rest of USA’s Greco-Roman World Team travel to Dortmund, Germany, this weekend to compete at the Grand Prix of Germany as a warm-up tournament for the World Championships.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.
To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Communications Coordinator Taylor Miller at tmiller@usawrestling.org.
