Carson Manville named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week
by Taylor Miller, USA Wrestling
Carson Manville (Lorton, Va./Banditos WC) has been selected as TheMat.com Athlete of the Week on April 24, 2018.
Manville won both the Greco-Roman and freestyle divisions at the U.S. Cadet Pan American Team Trials last weekend in East Stroudsburg, Pa., to make his second-straight Cadet Pan Am team.
The Virginia native put together a perfect weekend, going 8-0, without surrendering a single point.
In freestyle, Manville recorded four technical falls to outscore his opponents 42-0. Only one match in freestyle made it out of the first period. A day later in Greco, he picked up three tech falls and a pin to cap of an impressive weekend. In his Greco competition, only one match, his semifinal bout, made it out of the first minute, which he eventually won in 1:39 with a pin.
Manville and the rest of Team USA will represent the Red, White and Blue at the Cadet Pan Ams on May 25-27 in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.
To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Communications Coordinator Taylor Miller at tmiller@usawrestling.org.
