Justin Lester named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Justin Lester (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) has been selected as TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Oct. 12, 2015.
Lester won a silver medal at 75 kg/165 lbs. in Greco-Roman at the 6th Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) World Games held at the Mungyeong Indoor Gymnasium in Mungyeong, Korea.
Lester, a two-time World bronze medalist and 2012 Olympian, moved up from 71 kg/156 lbs., where he placed eighth at the recent World Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. He won the only medal for the USA in this four-day wrestling competition, which featured Greco-Roman and men’s freestyle.
Lester opened with three straight technical fall wins to reach the finals. He defeated 2014 Junior World bronze medalist Ibrahim Ghanem of Egypt, 8-0 in the second period. He then put away Geli Qing of China, who was fifth in the 2014 Asian Games, by a 10-0 margin in the quarterfinals. His semifinal victim was 2012 European Cadet bronze medalist Dawid Klimek of Poland, who he stopped 10-2 in the second period.
In the finals, he was defeated by Kim Jin-Hyeok of Korea, 2-6. Kim was a 2012 Olympian and placed fifth in the 2015 Asian Championships.
