Joe Smith named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Joe Smith (Stillwater, Okla./Team Oklahoma) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Smith went unbeaten, made the all-tournament team and helped lead Team Oklahoma to the Junior National Duals freestyle championship on Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.
Oklahoma repeated as champions by earning a hard-fought 37-28 win over perennial power Illinois in the finals.
Smith earned a key 11-7 win over 2014 Junior Nationals champion Isaiah White of Illinois in their bout at 160 pounds. Smith rallied from an early 6-2 deficit in the match.
Smith, son of Oklahoma State coach John Smith, went 6-0 in the freestyle competition in Tulsa. Joe Smith will wrestle collegiately for his father at OSU.
Joe Smith won three state titles for Stillwater High School. He placed fourth at the 2014 Junior Nationals in freestyle in Fargo, N.D.
