by Craig Sesker USA Wrestling
James Green (Willingboro, N.J./University of Nebraska) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Green scored four takedowns to knock off returning NCAA champion and top-ranked Derek St. John of Iowa 9-7 during the team’s Big Ten dual matchup on Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.
Green, a Husker junior, has now defeated St. John the past two times they have faced each other.
Green, seventh in the NCAA Championships in 2012 and 2013, is now ranked No. 1 nationally at 157 pounds. He is 22-0 this season.
Green competed in freestyle wrestling for the United States at the 2013 World University Games in Russia.
