Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, Calif./Sunkist Kids) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Anthony bumped up a weight class to win the U.S. Women's World Team Wrestle-Offs at 51 kg/112.25 lbs. on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Anthony swept two straight matches from past World Team member and U.S. Open champion Jessica Medina to qualify for next month's World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Anthony was seeded fifth in the Challenge Tournament before knocking off the No. 4, No. 1 and No. 2 seeds to earn a shot at Medina in the best-of-3 finals.
Anthony won matches over Medina 5-3 and 6-1 to sweep the final-round series.
Anthony, a two-time Junior World champion, placed second at June's U.S. World Team Trials at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. The four Olympic weight classes for women were contested at the World Team Trials with the final three World Team spots determined this past Saturday.
Anthony competes collegiately for Simon Fraser University in Canada.
