Kellen Russell (High Bridge, N.J./University of Michigan) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Feb. 28-March 5.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Russell became just the 11th wrestler to become a four-time Big Ten champion when he captured the 141-pound title at the Big Ten Championships on Sunday in West Lafayette, Ind.
Russell, a senior at Michigan, downed past NCAA runner-up Montell Marion of Iowa 7-2 in the finals. He became the first Michigan wrestler to win four Big Ten titles.
Russell won Big Ten titles in 2008 and 2009 before redshirting in 2010. He came back to win league titles in 2011 and 2012.
Russell won an NCAA title in 2011 and is ranked No. 1 nationally. He placed seventh nationally in 2009.
He will look to win his second NCAA title during the NCAA Championships, set for March 15-17 in St. Louis.
