Cody Yohn (Alamosa, Colo./University of Minnesota) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Feb. 14-20.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Yohn delivered two big wins in helping the Gophers win the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals title on Sunday in Stillwater, Okla.
The Alamosa, Colo., native picked up overtime wins over both No. 4 Iowa and No. 1 Oklahoma State.
Yohn defeated Iowa's sixth-ranked Mike Evans 4-2 in the Gophers' 16-15 win over the Hawkeyes in the semifinals. It was Minnesota's first win over Iowa since Feb. 18, 2007, when the Gophers won 29-13.
Yohn followed with a 4-2 overtime victory against the Cowboys' Dallas Bailey, to push Minnesota to an 18-13 win over Oklahoma State in the championship dual. Not only did it give Minnesota the title, but it was the Gophers' first win against Oklahoma State since Dec. 6, 2006 (21-15).
Yohn, a junior, is a two-time NCAA qualifier.
