Schuyler Brown named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for April 28 - May 4

Schuyler Brown (Montpelier, Va./USOEC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for April 28-May 4.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Brown was named Outstanding Wrestler in the Body Bar FILA Junior National Championships after winning the title at 59 kg/130 lbs. on May 2 in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was one of four USOEC athletes to win titles in the tournament.
Brown, along with all of the other winners in the tournament, qualified to compete on the U.S. team at the FILA Junior World Championships in in Konya, Turkey, July 31-August 8. It was the second straight year that Brown has made the Junior World Team. She competed at the 2008 Junior World Championships up at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.
Brown defeated 2008 FILA Cadet Nationals champion Katarina Perez of California (Perez Wrestling) in the finals by technical fall, 7-0, 10-3. She won three matches by pin over Haylee Childs, Rachel Shannon and Priscilla Caldera, and one by technical fall over Kristen Strickler.
Brown is a 19 year old freshman at Northern Michigan Univ. She was also a 2009 University Nationals champion and will represent the USA at the Grand Prix of Spain with the World University team.
She entered the USOEC freestyle program as a high school senior last year. She was a Junior Nationals champion last summer. Brown is scheduled to train at the USOTC in Colorado Springs next year.
