The sixth-ranked Sponseller earned a 4-1 win over No. 3 Jarrod King at 165 pounds to lift Ohio State to a 19-12 road win over Edinboro on Sunday.
Sponseller, a sophomore, is off to a strong start this season. The previous weekend he placed second at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. He knocked off returning All-American Stephen Dwyer of Nebraska en route to the finals. Sponseller has a 16-1 record this season.
Sponseller posted a 16-4 record as a freshman for the Buckeyes last season. He was seeded fourth at the Big Ten Championships, but did not place in the top eight and fell short of qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
