Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Bernard, who placed fifth at the 2008 Olympic Games, won her third tournament in as many weeks after capturing the title this past weekend at the Henri Deglane Challenge in Nice, France.

Bernard won three matches en route to the women's freestyle title at 72 kg/158.5 lbs. Earlier in the month, Bernard won the Hargobind International in Canada before capturing the New York AC International the following week.

Bernard wrestles for the University of Regina in Canada. A two-time Junior World champion, Bernard had a breakthrough season on the Senior level in 2008. She won the U.S. Nationals and U.S. Olympic Team Trials before earning her top-five finish at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.
