MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota wrestling program announced Championship Weekend on Wednesday afternoon, an upcoming weekend of recognition which will highlight both the 2001 and 2002 NCAA championship teams, as well as the prolific career of former Golden Gopher coach J Robinson.

Festivities will kick off on Friday, Jan. 14 when the Gophers host the Nebraska Cornhuskers at 8:00pm CT, where the team will recognize the 20th anniversary of both the 2001 and 2002 NCAA championship teams. The 2001 NCAA Championship was originally scheduled for last season, however they were forced to be postponed due to the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

The celebration will continue the following Sunday on Jan. 16 at 1:00pm CT against Wisconsin, as the team will honor decorated former head coach J Robinson. Robinson served as Minnesota’s head coach for 30 seasons dating from 1986-2016, leading the Gophers to a 437-134-4 record, 11 Big Ten titles, and three NCAA championships during his tenure.

Off the mat, the program will host a J Robinson social on Saturday, Jan. 15, which will be open to the public. Time and location will be announced at a later date.
