Luca Augustine selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Luca Augustine (Waynesburg, Pa./Pittsburgh WC) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on July 12, 2022.
Augustine represented the United States at the U20 Pan American Championships in Mexico over the weekend. Wrestling at 79 kg, Augustine competed in a five-man round-robin, blasting through his competition for the title.
The Univ. of Pittsburgh wrestler went 4-0 at the tournament, winning all four matches by technical falls and not surrendering a single point.
Augustine opened with a 10-0 win over Brazil’s Guilherme Barros de Arruda Porto, followed by two more 10-0 victories against Miguel Lavielle Ramirez from Mexico and Juan Cardozo Ibata from Colombia. The American ended his tournament, taking out Connor Church of Canada, 11-0.
Because of his performance, Augustine was awarded the U20 Pan Am freestyle Outstanding Wrestler.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.
