Amit Elor (Walnut Creek, Calif./NYC RTC/Titan Mercury WC) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Aug. 30, 2022.

Elor collected her second-consecutive U20 World title at the U20 World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, earlier this month with a dominating performance at 72 kg in women’s freestyle.

She opened her tournament with a pin over Zaineb Sghaier of Tunisia, who Elor defeated in 2019 for the U17 World bronze medal. She then rattled off two technical falls over opponents from Hungary and India to secure her spot in the finals. For gold, Elor decimated Kazakhstan’s Anastassiya Panassovich with a 10-0 victory, which ended in the first period.

The win marks Elor’s third overall age-group World title, also winning a 2021 U17 World gold.

Her season is far from over as Elor will head to Belgrade, Serbia, for the Senior World Championships in September, and in October, she will compete at the U23 World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.

To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Manager of Communications and Social Media Taylor Gregorio at tgregorio@usawrestling.org.
