Reece Humphrey selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

by Taylor Miller, USA Wrestling

Reece Humphrey (Princeton, N.J./NJ RTC) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Oct. 27, 2021.

Humphrey represented the United States last weekend at the Veteran World Championships in Loutraki, Greece, where athletes aged 35-60 compete in respective age categories.

Wrestling in Division A (35-40 years old), Humphrey snagged gold medals in both the Greco-Roman and freestyle tournaments, making him only the second American in history to win double gold at the event. The last was U.S. veterans star Shirzad Ahmadi in 2015.

In freestyle action, Humphrey tallied three-straight technical fall wins, including a 10-0 shut out against his brother, Jordin, in the finals. He outscored the freestyle competition 32-0. Just days later in Greco-Roman, Reece had to go through four opponents, all of whom he dominated with tech falls over opponents from Latvia, USA (Jordin Humphrey) and Russia, as well as a pin over an opponent from Iran.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.

To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Manager of Communications and Social Media Taylor Miller at tmiller@usawrestling.org.
