The U.S. Greco-Roman program returns 2006 World champion Joe Warren to a support role focused on program growth and athlete development.
Warren will spend time at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., teaching and mentoring Greco-Roman athletes, as well as supporting the full-time national coaching staff at home base and on the road at various nationals and international events.
“I bleed Red, White and Blue,” Warren said while coaching the U.S. Greco-Roman team at the recent U23 World Championships. “I’m a product of USA Wrestling…honored to be able to take a position with USA Wrestling in Greco.”
Warren was the last World champion for the U.S. in Greco-Roman, doing so nearly 20 years ago in Guangzhou, China. He was the fourth American to win a Greco-Roman World title and a two-time Senior World Team member for Team USA (2005-06). Collegiately, Warren was a Division I All-American for the University of Michigan.
For his post-wrestling career, Warren transitioned to MMA, where he became a two-division champion at Bellator MMA. Now residing in Denver, Colo., Warren is one of the top Greco-Roman coaches in the country.
