McKenna, Woods set for 65 kg battle at 2025 Final X in Newark, N.J.

Joey McKenna and Real Woods square off for the 65 kg spot on the 2025 U.S. Senior World Team at Final X on Saturday, June 14 at Prudential Center. Both bring elite-level credentials, setting up an exciting matchup to determine the World Team representative.

McKenna enters Final X as a consistent contender at 65 kg. A two-time U.S. Open champion (2018, 2025), McKenna earned his place in Final X by winning the 2025 U.S. Open in late April. Since 2022, McKenna has medaled in 12 international tournaments, and is coming off of a silver medal performance at the 2025 Senior Pan American Championships.

He is a three-time age-group World Team member and a two-time age-group World medalist, earning silver at the 2014 Junior World Championships and bronze at the 2017 U23 World Championships. Though he’s been one of the most consistent athletes at 65 kg, a win at Final X would mark his first Senior World Team appearance. The Towaco, New Jersey native recently transitioned to the Cowboy RTC in Stillwater, Oklahoma, last fall.

Woods, representing the Cliff Keen Wrestling Club out of Ann Arbor, Michigan, punched his ticket to Final X by winning the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.

Woods was a 2016 Cadet Greco-Roman World Team member but shifted his focus to freestyle in 2019, the year he won gold at the Junior Pan American Championships. In 2025, he added a bronze medal at the Muhamet Malo Ranking Series event in Albania.

At the Senior level, this will be the first matchup between the pair. Neither have wrestled against each other in a USA Wrestling event or an international tournament.

Final X will determine the 2025 U.S. World Team in two international disciplines—men’s freestyle and women’s freestyle. In total, 20 weight classes will be contested, 10 in each discipline. The top two U.S. athletes in each weight classes will wrestle a best-of-three series at Final X to determine the U.S. representative at the 2025 Senior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.

This will mark McKenna’s second Final X appearance in June. In 2018, McKenna finished as the runner-up to Logan Stieber. Most recently, McKenna won his True Thirds match in 2023 to secure a spot on the 2023 Senior Men’s Freestyle national team. Woods will make his Final X debut in June.

Final X will serve as the Beat the Streets New York Annual Benefit, the 15^th BTSNY Annual Benefit to date. These unique electrifying events help BTSNY raise more than $1 million each year to support local youth wrestling programs which empower young people in New York City. The BTSNY Annual Benefit after-party will follow the conclusion of Final X.

This is the first Beat the Streets event for both McKenna and Woods.

Final X will be held in two sessions on Saturday, June 14. Session I, which starts at 2 p.m. (ET), will feature round one in each best-of-three series. Session II, which starts at 5 p.m. (ET), will continue with round two and if-necessary round three matches. Match order for each session will be provided at a later date.
