Elor, Glaude to meet at 72 kg in women’s freestyle at 2025 Final X in Newark, N.J.
by Richard Immel, USA Wrestling
2024 Olympic champion Amit Elor and 2018 U23 World bronze medalist Alexandria Glaude will meet for the Team USA spot at 72 kg in the women’s freestyle division at 2025 Final X on Saturday, June 14 at Prudential Center.
The two have not faced off in Senior level competition, giving a slight air of unpredictability to this matchup. Elor makes commanding use of her underhooks and forward pressure, forcing her opponents into frequent mistakes. Glaude is scrappy and boasts a powerful shot from space. If Glaude can keep her distance, stay out of Elor’s ties and keep from wrestling with her back to the edge of the circle, she can keep things competitive with the reigning Olympic champ.
Elor made her first competitive appearance post-Paris last month at the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Louisville, Ky. Elor won the event to qualify for Final X but was pushed to the brink in a 2-1 final with Skylar Grote. Elor was eligible for a Final X sit-out spot at 68 kg, where she won her Olympic gold medal. However, she decided to return to 72 kg for this season, forcing her to go through a qualifying event to make Final X.
The Walnut Creek, Calif., native continues to rewrite the USA Wrestling history books. She is a nine-time gold medalist at Olympic and World Championship events across the U17, U20, U23 and Senior age divisions in women’s freestyle wrestling. She also owns a U17 beach wrestling world title. In 2022, Elor became the youngest Senior World champion in U.S. history, doing so at age 18. She also set the mark as youngest Olympic wrestling champion in U.S. history last year in Paris, achieving Olympic gold status at age 20. Elor remains undefeated on the Senior level with an immaculate 32-0 record.
Glaude has qualified for two age-group World Teams, earning ninth place at the 2017 U20 Worlds and bronze at the 2018 U23 Worlds. She is a two-time Pan American medalist with a gold medal coming in 2021 and a bronze medal from 2024. She has reeled off medals at four-straight international events, including a bronze medal at this year’s Muhamet Malo Ranking Series event in Tirana, Albania.
Glaude qualified for Final X by winning the 2025 U.S. Open in Las Vegas, Nev. Similar to Elor, Glaude edged Grote by a single point in the U.S. Open finals to cement her place in Newark.
What’s at stake? #
Final X will determine the 2025 U.S. World Team in two international disciplines—men’s freestyle and women’s freestyle. In total, 20 weight classes will be contested, 10 in each discipline. The top two U.S. athletes in each weight classes will wrestle a best-of-three series at Final X to determine the U.S. representative at the 2025 Senior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.
Elor has made two appearances at Final X. She earned a pair of 10-0 technical falls against Grote in the 2022 Final X series held at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Elor backed it up in 2023 with an identical 10-0, 10-0, effort against Joye Levendusky in the Final X series held at Prudential Center.
Glaude is 0-1 in Final X series. She was defeated at 2019 Final X: Rutgers by Tamyra Mensah-Stock, the eventual Olympic champion in Tokyo, by 10-0 technical fall and a pin.
