A first-time U.S. Senior World Team member will emerge between Trent Hidlay and Joshua Barr at 92 kg in men’s freestyle at 2025 Final X on Saturday, June 14, at Prudential Center.

Hidlay comes to Newark, New Jersey, riding high to start the year. He took bronze down at 86 kg at the Zagreb Open Ranking Series in February in Zagreb, Croatia, then moved up to 92 kg to claim his Final X spot by winning the U.S. Open in April in Las Vegas, Nev. He also captured gold at the Senior Pan American Championships in May.

Hidlay is a two-time age-level World medalist at 86 kg, with bronze at the 2019 U20 Worlds and silver at the 2022 U23 Worlds. He also is a two-time NCAA runner-up and four-time NCAA All-American from 2020 to 2024 for North Carolina State. Barr is also a U20 World medalist with silver at 86 kg in 2024. He was an NCAA runner-up this year as a redshirt freshman at Penn State.

Hidlay and Barr each defeated the same opponent - 2024 U20 86 kg Pan American champion Aeoden Sinclair - to advance to Final X. Hidlay secured a 7-1 win in the U.S. Open finals, and Barr earned a 7-3 victory at the Senior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in May in Louisville, Ky.

Final X will be the first matchup between Hidlay and Barr.

What’s at stake?

Final X will determine the 2025 U.S. World Team in two international disciplines—men’s freestyle and women’s freestyle. In total, 20 weight classes will be contested, 10 in each discipline. The top two U.S. athletes in each weight classes will wrestle a best-of-three series at Final X to determine the U.S. representative at the 2025 Senior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.

This will be Hidlay’s second appearance at a Final X event after he dropped a 6-4 decision to two-time U20 World champion Mark Hall in a true-third match at the 2022 Final X: NYC at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Final X will serve as the Beat the Streets New York Annual Benefit, the 15th BTSNY Annual Benefit to date. These unique electrifying events help BTSNY raise more than $1 million each year to support local youth wrestling programs which empower young people in New York City.
