USA Wrestling has set a goal of bringing a full team of athletes to compete in the U17 and U20 Beach World Championships in Katerini, Greece, September 25-26.

The deadline for the first phase of the team selection has passed and USA Wrestling has 21 open spots on the team that it would like to fill. Here is what is available at this time:

U17 Men’s Beach Team

60 kg – Three open spots

90 kg – Three open spots

(the roster is full at 70 kg and 80 kg)

U17 Women’s Beach Team

45 kg – Three open spots

65 kg – Two open spots

75 kg – Three open spots

(the roster is full at 55 kg)

U20 Men’s Beach Team

70 kg – Two open spots

80 kg – One open spot

90 kg – Two open spots

Over 90 kg – One open spot

U20 Women’s Beach Team

(the roster is full in all four weight classes)

This is a self-funded team, meaning the entire costs of room and board, travel and UWW license must be covered by the participant. USA Wrestling will provide a uniform package for each participant. USA Wrestling will provide a team leader, referee, medical staff member and Coach Tim Box for the tour at no cost to the participant.

Please be aware. Beach Wrestling is the only wrestling style being contested in 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal. It has not been announced, but many expect that the U17 competition at the 2025 Beach World Championships will be part of the qualifying process for the Youth Olympic Games. It is important that Team USA have a strong performance in the 2025 U17 Beach Worlds.

Any current USA Wrestling member who meets age requirements and is a U.S. citizen can apply for these positions.

The 2025 Beach Wrestling Teams Procedures states the following:

If there are still spots open on the U17 World Team and/or the U20 World Team after July 10, the spots will be opened to others, with the final team set on August 10. These will be the criteria used for filling the open spots in rank order:

  1. Results at the 2023 or 2024 Beach Age-Group World Championships
  2. Results at the 2024 or 2025 Beach Pan American Championships
  3. Results at the 2023, 2024 or 2025 U.S. Beach National Championships
  4. Results at the 2024 Carolina Beach Nationals or 2025 California Beach Nationals
  5. Results at the 2023, 2024 or 2025 Beach Wrestling Championships held in Fargo, N.D.
  6. Open to the general public to athletes that meet age-group and eligibility requirements on a first-come, first served basis

With that said, you don’t have to have Beach Wrestling achievements to be on the team. If you would like to compete in U17 or U20 Beach World Championships, don’t assume somebody with more or better achievements has applied. It is the goal for Team USA to have a full team, and if you are interested, please throw your hat into the ring.

To apply for an open spot on the U17 or U20 Beach World Team, please send your name, address, email and phone number, along with your Beach wrestling achievements, and mat wrestling achievements immediately to Jaimie McNab of USA Wrestling at jmcnab@usawrestling.org.

Those who express an interest will be sent additional information about the details of the trip. If there is more interest than there is availability on the team, USA Wrestling will refer to the Beach Wrestling World Team Procedures to finalize the selection.
