Leister Bowling IV is one of two U.S. athletes wrestling on the final day of the U20 World Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria.
SAMOKOV, Bulgaria - The last four weights of Greco-Roman conclude on Day 8 of the U20 World Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria. Weights finishing on the last day are 63kg, 77kg, 87kg, and 130kg. Repechage matches begin at 4:15 local time (9:15 a.m. Eastern) with finals set to begin at 6 p.m. local time.
UPDATE: Leister Bowling IV will wrestle for bronze after winning his repechage match at 77kg. He will face 2024 U17 World Champion Kiryl Valeuski in his bronze medal bout.

GR63kg Bronze - Kiryl Valeuski (UWW) tech. fall Leister Bowling IV (United States) 9-0 #
Valeuski goes up 4-0 with an armthrow, taking Bowling IV over to his back. Passivity against Bowling IV, point for Valeuski. We go par terre with 1:18 left in the first. High gutwrench for Valeuski to build a 7-0 lead and then another gut will finish the match off 9-0.
GR 63kg Repechage - Mohammed Aboutalebi (Iran) tech. fall Landon Drury (United States) 11-0. #
Aboutalebi jumps out to a 2-0 lead with a quick takedown and goes right after Drury again with a stepout and a 3-0 lead with 40 seconds gone by in the first period. Passivity on Drury. Point for Aboutalebi. 4-0 lead and we go par terre. Aboutalebi with a gutwrench for two points and then he launches Drury for five to end it 11-0.
GR 63kg Repechage - Landon Drury (United States) dec. Hao Yang (China) 3-3, criteria #
Passivity on Drury. Point for Yang. We’ll go down in par terre. 1-0 Yang with 1:38 left in the first. Yang with a two point throw from the lift position. 3-0 lead with a fresh start coming with 1:05 left in the period. 3-0 lead for Yang at the break. Passivity on Yang. Point for Drury. We’ll go par terre with 2:12 left in the match. Drury with a gutwrench for two. Makes it 3-3 and Drury holds criteria with 1:46 left in the bout. Drury wins 3-3 and will advance to the next round of repechage against Aboutalebi of Iran.
GR 77kg Repechage - Leister Bowling IV (United States) dec. Akzhan Ykylassov (Kazakhstan) 8-4 #
Now up on B GR 77kg Repechage - Leister Bowling IV (United States) vs. Akzhan Ykylassov (Kazakhstan). Passivity on Bowling IV. Point for Ykylassov. We go par terre with 1:38 left in the period. Bowling IV with a reversal as Ykylassov slips off a front headlock throw attempt. 1-1 with 1:04 left in the first. Blood stoppage. Nothing from either to end the period. Score tied 1-1, but Bowling IV holds criteria for last point scored. Bowling IV hit for passivity again in the second. Point for Ykylassov. We go par terre. Ykylassov tries to lift and Bowling IV counters for two exposure. Ykylassov to his feet and gets behind and drives Bowling IV to the edge and Bowling IV hits a standing switch and gets two on the takedown! KAZ challenges. Lost challenge and another point for Bowling IV. 6-2 with 1:08 left. Ykylassov with two points to make it 6-4, but a caution and two quickly after the restart makes it 8-4 and that’s how it ends! Bowling IV will wrestle for bronze later tonight.
