Day 5 Live Updates: Women's Freestyle & Greco-Roman

Abbi Cooper was one of three U.S. women to reach the semifinals on Thursday at the U20 World Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria.
SAMOKOV, Bulgaria - - Follow the action from Arena Samokov on Day 5 of the U20 World Championships. Competition for Team USA is women's freestyle and Greco-Roman. Women's freestyle will got at 50kg, 53kg and 72kg. Greco-Roman will roll out 60kg and 82kg. Morning session begins at 10 a.m. local time (3 a.m. Eastern) with semifinals today set for 4:45 p.m. local time (9:45 a.m. Eastern). Medal matches will begin at 6 p.m. local time (11 a.m. Eastern)
Session One Quick Recap
All three American women who competed on Thursday qualified for the afternoon's semifinals. Audrey Jimenez, Abbi Cooper and Jasmine Robinson take the mats just after 4:45 p.m. local time. Jimenez, a two-time U20 silver medalist and four-time age-group medal winner, will face Diana Rysova of Ukraine at 50kg, Cooper will face 2023 U17 world champion Natsumi Masuda of Japan at 53kg. Returning U20 world champion Jasmine Robinson will face 2024 U17 world champion Kajal of India at 72kg.
In seven combined matches, the U.S. women have five technical falls and two pins. They didn't give up a point collectively in the entire first session.
Leydecker warned for backing away as Reena walked Leydecker around the mat with a 2-on-1. Sweep single for Leydecker converted for a takedown and a 2-0 lead. She goes right to an ankle lace for a turn, and another. And another. Can’t get the final turn and we go out of bounds with Leydecker leading 8-0 with 1:28 left in the first. Leydecker leads 8-0 at the break.
Leydecker given a passivity. Reena tries to go under with a double. Leydecker fights it off, but hit for passivity. She’s on the activity period. Point for Reena as the clock expires with 30 left to go in the bout. Caution and 1 for fleeing against Leydecker. 8-2 with 10 to go. WORLD CHAMPION. EVEREST LEYDECKER!
Passivity against Nugent 50 seconds into a scoreless bout. Passivity against Nugent at 1:24 left. She’ll go on the activity period. Akkus with a takedown counting an attempt by Nugent. Additional point for the inactivity. 3-0 lead for Akkus. Nugent backs Akkus near the edge but gets stuck when she tries to throw it by for a stepout. Akkus counters and covers for two. 5-0 lead. Blue (U.S.) will challenge. Challenge lost. Another point to Akkus for the lost challenge. 6-0 on the restart with 18 seconds left in the first period. 6-0 Akkus at the break. Quick takedown and turn for Akkus to take the bronze with a 10-0 win. Nugent will finish 5th.
Jimenez tries to bounce and spin, but Rysova reverses the position and goes up 1-0 with a stepout 45 seconds into the bout. Jimenez with a sweep to the left side for two and she locks up her leg lace! Four turns for Jimenez makes it 10-1 with 1 minute left in the period. Rysova bullies her way into Jimenez, getting a stepout and then Jimenez gets hit for a caution and one for fleeing. Jimenez answers right back on the restart with a takedown and then a lace for the 14-3 tech and berth into the finals!
Masuda strikes first with a takedown and they stay down in par terre a long time and Masuda gets a turn and goes up 4-0 with 50 gone by in the first. Masuda drives Cooper to the edge and gets a one-point stepout to extend her lead to 5-0. Masuda takes Cooper to her back for four and finishes with the fall with 30 seconds left in the bout. Cooper will wrestle for bronze tomorrow.
Robinson quickly on the attack and scores the two-point takedown on a sweep single. Robinson locks up a leglace and gets one turn, then stands up with it and gets another for a 6-0 lead with 1:47 left in the first. Kajal with a takedown and a quick turn to cut the lead to 6-4, but the U.S. will challenge, more than likely because they felt there wasn’t exposure. Call confirmed. Kajal wins a point for the lost challenge. Reset with Robinson leading 6-5 with 1:26 left in the first. Kajal and Robinson in a flurry and Kajal takes Robinson to her back for four points. Kajal leads 9-6. Robinson taking injury time. She’s gesturing to her forehead to the docs. Back to the center and we restart with 48 seconds left in the first. 9-6 Kajal at the break. Single leg for Kajal and she leads 11-6. Robinson slow to get up again, holding her neck. Back to the center with 1:42 left. Robinson tries to hip over on a whizzer and gets taken down. Kajal leads 13-6. Kajal takes the win and the berth to the finals 13-6.

Jimenez hits a counter attack to score the first takedown to go up 2-0 a minute into the bout. Hu is super quick and nearly came out of the situation with a reversal. Jimenez with a single leg, doubles off and still can’t finish as Hu’s got strong defense and gets Jimenez extended. Fresh start with :58 left in the period. 2-0 Jimenez at the break. Jimenez converts on an ankle pick and goes right to her lace, but doesn’t get any turns out of it. 4-0 lead on the restart with 2:28 left. Jimenez goes head in the hole and comes out with the takedown and goes right back to her lace and gets two turns and gets the tech and berth to the semifinals!
Scoreless after the first minute after Cooper tried to take a front headlock and bounce to break the lock of Chikanova. Blood stoppage for Chikanova. Big four on the restart from Cooper and she follows that up with a pair of turns. Restart with 1:05 left in the period and Cooper leads 8-0. 8-0 lead for Cooper at the break. Snap, spin, near ankle … control and the takedown for a 10-0 tech! Cooper into the semis!
Snap and spin, Jimenez gets two and drops right to an ankle lace and finishes things off in 16 seconds. 10-0!
Robinson with a quick takedown to take an early 2-0 lead. Arm drag whips Vilk to her back and Robinson gets the fall at 1:21 of the first period to advance to this afternoon's semifinals!
Long stoppage to tape up Azarshab’s head for bleeding. Khosravy tries to take the chestlock through, but Azarshab gets 4 out of it instead. 4-0 Azarshab halfway through the first. Azarshab with two points after Khosravy is hit with a caution and two for a pop to the face. Khosravy complaining to his corner about a headbutt. Azarshab gets 4 on the same situation as before, but this one looked more desperation than set up. U.S. will challenge. Challenge lost. Point for the lost challenge for Azarshab. Final score is 11-0.
Dzhavadian quickly with a takedown and then hits a two-point throw from the straight lift to go up 4-0. Cortez appears to get a takedown, but the action is ruled a slip. U.S. will challenge 41 seconds into the bout. Call is overturned. Cortez gets the takedown and we restart in par terre. Cortez bars the arm and halfs it and runs it over for two, nearly getting the fall. 4-4 and Cortez holds criteria. Nearly got another turn. Back to standing halfway through the period. Dzhavadian doing a nice job at controlling the tie with the 2-on-1. 4-4 at the break.
Dzhavadian runs the 2-on-1 to the edge, but Cortez hips in and gets the stepout to make it 5-4. Dzhavadian ties it up but takes the lead on criteria with a stepout of his own. 5-5 with 2:30 left. Cortez hit for passivity. Point for Dzhavadian. Cortez now on bottom in par terre. Cortez with the reversal, but the mat chairman will call a conference. Nothing has been awarded. Red has already hit the challenge buzzer. We go to review. Cortez hit for a leg foul on the review, so it’ll be a caution and 2, and Cortez will be put back down trailing 8-5 with 1:18 left. Dzhavadian tries a lift, but gets nothing and we come back to our feet with 1:09 to go. Dzhavadian wins it 8-5.
Cooper runs the two-on-one to the edge, Aleksandrova tries to counter with a throw and Cooper covers for a takedown. Cooper with a quick takedown off the restart and a pair of gutwrenches for an 8-0 lead 40 seconds in. Cooper gets Aleksandrova extended on the edge and tips her through for two on the exposure and a 10-0 tech in just 1:20.
Sakai goes in with the double leg and Robinson feeds hips and then quickly hits a lateral drop and gets the finish 37 seconds into the bout! BOOM!
Passivity. Point. Position. Kalyev leads 1-0. On top in par terre with 1:32 left in the first. Kalyev locks, tries to turn, Khosravy steps over, gets the reversal and hits a two-point gutwrench to lead 4-1 with 1:02 left in the first. Khosravy leads 4-1 at the break. Referee wagging the finger at Kalyev. We’ll restart 15 seconds into the second period. Kalyev hit for passivity. Point Khosravy. 5-1 and now Khosravy on top in par terre. Khosravy can’t get any offense from on top. We’re back to standing with two minutes left. Kalyev drives Khosravy out for a one-point stepout. Khosravy leads 5-2 with 1:34 left. Khosravy telling the referee he was head-butted. Khosravy controls the rest of the match with a strong underhook and gets a late takedown to make it 7-2. Khosravy wins 7-2.
Robinson with a big double leg off the whistle and goes right to an ankle lace and hits three quick turns. 8-0 in the first 25 seconds. Robinson doubles Ersson for four and ends it in 41 seconds. 12-0 tech for Robinson!
Loud horns blaring as the Bulgarian has the home crowd behind him. Passivity, point and position for Petrov. Petrov on top in par terre leading 1-0 with 1:36 left in the first. Petrov locks up a gut and nearly turns Cortez. Cortez hipped in and nearly stepped over. Back to standing with 1:10 left in the first. Cortez takes a front headlock over for two exposure to lead 2-1, he then stacks up Petrov and gets the fall with 28 seconds left in the first. Touche 2:32.
