“It was a tremendously sad day for USA Wrestling when we lost a member of our family with the passing of Army WCAP wrestler Estrella Dorado Marin,” said USA Wrestling’s National Women’s Coach Terry Steiner. “She was not only one of our rising young stars, she was also a great teammate and a great friend that people could lean on. She is already missed by everyone. But her legacy will carry on through the Army WCAP Program and USA Wrestling’s women’s program.”

Estrella, called Star by her friends, had already made her mark on the national and international scene. She was a 2022 Pan American U20 Championships silver medalist, after placing second at the 2022 U20 World Team Trials. Twice, Estrella placed fifth at the U.S. Senior Open, in both 2021 and 2022. In 2023, she was the Armed Forces champion. Among her other achievements were medals in events in Germany and the Netherlands.

According to her WCAP biography, Estrella joined the U.S. Army in August 2020. Her military position was MOS:92F, Fuel Supply Specialist.

She was very active and successful in USA Wrestling’s age-group programs prior to joining Army WCAP, winning multiple All-American honors. She placed seventh at the 2019 Junior Nationals, fourth in the 2019 U17 Nationals, fifth in the 2018 Junior Nationals and fourth in the 2017 USA Wrestling Preseason Nationals.

Her younger sister, Adriana Dorado Marin, was one of her teammates with the Army WCAP program. Because of her love for wrestling, and her commitment to pursuing excellence in the sport, Estrella made friends throughout Colorado, the United States and around the world. She made an impact on the lives of so many within the wrestling family.
