Star-laden U.S. men’s freestyle team receives draws at Pan American Championships

The U.S. men’s freestyle team competing at the Pan-American Championships in Acapulco, Mexico, has received their first round draws. Action kicks off on Friday, with 61 kg, 74 kg, and 86 kg slated to compete. On Saturday, 57 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 79 kg, 92 kg, 97 kg, and 125 kg will take the mat. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. CT on both days.

At 57 kg, Spencer Lee opens his tournament against either Oscar Tigreros Urbano of Colombia or Enrique Herrera Huacre of Peru. Tigreros Urbano, a 2023 Pan-American Games silver medalist, and Herrera Huacre, a two-time U20 Pan-American Championships silver medalist, will present Lee and exciting first match.

Nick Suriano, competing at 61 kg, is set to face off against Joseph Silva of Puerto Rico. Silva is a 2023 Pan-American Games bronze medalist and Pan-American Championships silver medalist. Competing at 65 kg, Nick Lee, prepares to take on either Jean Olivero Garcia of Cuba or Joshua Kramer of Ecuador.

In the 70 kg division, Alec Pantaleo is set to square off against Victor Soto Rivera of Puerto Rico in his opening match. Rivera is a 2023 U17 Pan-American Championships silver medalist. Kyle Dake, last year’s champion at 74 kg, prepares to face either Angel Cortes Bonilla of Panama or Luis Barrios Rochez of Honduras.

In the 79 kg weight class, Alex Facundo is slated to open his tournament against Jasmit Phulka of Canada. Phulka is a four-time Senior World Team member and two-time Pan-American Championships medalist that will post a test for Facundo's skills on the mat.

Chance Marsteller prepares to face either Jose Sanchez of Puerto Rico or Jorge Llano of  Argentina at 86 kg. Sanchez was a 2023 U23 World Team member and Llano is a Pan-American Championships bronze medalist.

At 92 kg, Nate Jackson is slated to face Tejvir Boal of Canada. Boal's resume includes a silver medal at the 2022 Canada Cup and three age-group Pan-American Championships medals.

Kyle Snyder, competing at 97 kg, is set to take on either Ricardo Baez of Argentina or Luis Miguel Perez Sosa of the Dominican Republic. Baez has previous experience as a 2018 Senior World Team member and Perez Sosa is a five-time Pan-American Championships medalist.

Competing at 125 kg, Mason Parris prepares to face either Richard Deschatelets of Canada or Gabriel De Sousa Silva of Brazil. Deschatelets won the 2022 Canada Cup and De Sousa Silva is a two-time Pan-American Championships medalist.
