AMMAN, Jordan – Three men’s freestyle athletes advanced to the semifinals, while two athletes remain eligible for repechage after the morning session at the U17 World Championships in Amman, Jordan.
At 45 kg, Samuel Sanchez cruised into the semifinals with back-to-back technical falls. In his opening match against Taku Shiba of Japan, Sanchez wasted no time, scoring an early takedown and then turning Shiba, adding a throw for four, then another turn sealed his victory.
In the quarterfinals, Sanchez faced Armenia’s Mher Hakobyan, where he secured an 11-0 technical fall. Sanchez quickly put Hakobyan on his back for four points and continued to pile on the pressure, winning 11-0 and advancing to the semifinals.
Domenic Munaretto’s path to the semifinals was marked by control at 51 kg. In his first match, Against Ozodbek Alijonov of Uzbekistan, Munaretto quickly took the lead, capitalizing on an attack from Alijonov, and securing a series of takedowns to win 10-0.
In his quarterfinal bout, Munaretto faced Ashot Gyulnazaryan of Armenia. Munaretto opened the match with a quick takedown and continued to build his lead. Despite a late surge from Gyulnazaryan, Munaretto defended well and capped off the match with a four-point move, tossing Gyulnazaryan to his back, winning by an 11-1 technical fall to advance to the semifinals.
Jordyn Raney went 3-0 in this session at 60 kg to advance to the semifinals. Raney faced Adlan Saitiev in the qualifying round, and found himself trailing early in the match. Raney controlled the second period, shifting the momentum after securing a takedown and locking up a leg lace. A final step out sealed the 10-4 victory.
Raney continued his dominant run, pinning Stefan Gouws of South Africa, ending the match in just 54 seconds. He followed that up with a hard-fought 11-6 victory over Bekassyl Assambek of Kazakhstan.

In the quarterfinals, Miller faced Manuel Wagin of Germany, where he struggled to maintain control. Despite a strong effort that saw the match scored 5-5 late in the bout, Petriashvili managed to secure a decisive takedown in the final seconds, winning 7-5. Diakomihalis remains eligible for repechage.
