U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers receive draws for U17 World Championships in Amman, Jordan

AMMAN, Jordan – The U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers compete in the U17 World Championships in Amman, Jordan have received their draws for this weekend.
Three U.S. athletes will be competing in the 2024 U17 World Championships in freestyle also competed in the Greco-Roman tournament earlier in the week, Jordyn Raney at 60 kg, Domenic Munaretto at 51 kg and Emmitt Sherlock at 80 kg.
Jordyn Raney, a 2023 U17 World Greco-Roman champion, won a bronze medal in the 2024 U17 Worlds in Greco-Roman. In freestyle, Raney will face Individual Neutral Athlete Adlan Saitiev in the first round. In his half bracket are 2024 Asian U17 silver medalist Bekassyl Assambek of Kazakhstan, 2023 U15 Asian champion Sitender of India and 2024 Asian U17 champion Omurbek Asan Uulu of Kyrgyzstan.
Munaretto, a 2022 U17 World freestyle champion, placed 10th at 51 kg in the 2024 U17 Worlds in Greco-Roman with a 1-2 record. Munaretto will open against the winner of Ozodbek Alijonov of Uzbekistan and Kevin Birchler of Switzerland. In his half bracket is 2024 Asian U17 champion Sam Arshadghasabsaraei of Iran.
Sherlock went 0-1 and finished 17th in Greco-Roman at the 2024 U17 Worlds this week. Sherlock won two medals at the 2014 U17 Pan American Championships, a gold in freestyle and a bronze in Greco-Roman. Sherlock will start off with Takeharu Nishihara of Japan. In his half bracket, Sherlock could face 2024 European U17 champion Aldat Kesaev, an Individual Neutral Athlete, or 2024 Asian U17 champion Reza Afshar of Iran.
Another with past U17 World experience is Henry Aslikyan, who finished 16th in Greco-Roman in 2023. Aslikyan also captured gold in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at the 2023 U17 Pan American Championships. This year, in freestyle at 48 kg, he opens against 2024 European U17 silver medalist Eren Yalcin of Turkey.
2024 USMC 16U Nationals champion Melvin Miller will open at 71 kg against Arsiom Bolsun, an Individual Neutral Athlete. His quarterbracket features 2024 Asian U17 champion Nursadyk Nurdinov of Kyrgyzstan, 2023 U17 World bronze medalist Manuel Wagin of Germany and 2024 European U17 runner-up Catalin Spinu of Moldova,
At 110 kg, Michael Mocco will compete against 2024 U17 European silver medalist Mukhamad Gantemirov of Azerbaijan. Mocco won the 2023 USMC 16U Nationals in both styles
Elijah Diakomihalis makes his international debut at 92 kg, where he opens against Farhad Suleymanli of Azerbaijan, who was fifth in the 2024 U17 European Championships. If he wins his first match, he faces 2024 European U17 champion Konstantin Petriashvili of Georgia.
Samuel Sanchez will open at 45 kg against Taku Shiba of Japan. His half bracket includes 2024 European U17 champion Dzhamal Bakaev (an Individual Neutral Athlete), 2024 Asian U17 silver medalist Jurabek Rakhmonov of Uzbekistan and 2024 European U17 silver medalist Bugra Kavak of Turkey.
At 55 kg, Keanu Dillard will compete against Ryenchinpeljee Bavuudorj of Mongolia in his first match. If he wins, he draws 2024 European U17 bronze medalist Zurab Aloiev of Ukraine. In his quarterbracket is 2023 U15 European champion Tunzhai Verdiev, an Individual Neutral Athlete and 2024 Asian U17 champion Arian Mehralizadeh of Iran.
Nathaniel Askew, competing at 65 kg, opens with two-time European U15 champion Yeghishe Mosesyan of Armenia. His quarterbracket features 2024 European U17 champion Isa Yusibov of Azerbaijan.
The men’s freestyle competition begins on Friday and continues through Sunday.
Starting their competition on Friday, and concluding Saturday are Sanchez (48 kg), Dillard (55 kg), Askew (65 kg), Sherlock (80 kg) and Mocco (110 kg). Starting their competition on Saturday and concluding on Sunday are Aslikyan (45 kg), Munaretto (51 kg), Raney (60 kg), Miller (71 kg) and Diakomihalis (92 kg).
