USA to attend U23 Pan American Championships in Colombia, June 21-22, with teams set at U23 Nationals

United World Wrestling informed USA Wrestling that the 2024 Pan American U23 Championships has changed its date to June 21-22 in Rio Negro, Colombia.

This date change will allow USA Wrestling to field a team to compete in the event. Previously, the event was scheduled at a date with conflicted with the USA Wrestling schedule.

With USA Wrestling now able to participate, the team will be selected based upon the results of the 2024 U23 National Championships in all three disciplines.

The Women’s U23 National Championshiips are set for Spokane, Wash., April 12-13, and the U23 National Championships for men (in freestyle and Greco-Roman) will be held in Geneva, Ohio, May 31-June 2.

In addition, athletes who qualify for the U.S. teams for the 2024 Pan American U23 Championships will attend with no co-pay, making the tour free of charge to the athletes.

The qualification process for the 2024 Pan American U23 Championships team is simple. U23 National champions will be offered the opportunity to compete in each weight class. If a champion can not participate, the opportunity will be offered in rank order from runner-up down to eighth place at the weight class.

Athletes competing at the U23 National Championships for women and men who wish to attend the U23 Pan American Championships are encouraged to get a passport right away if they don’t have one. The turnaround time from the U23 Nationals until when the team must be finalized is very short. Please plan accordingly. It is possible that an athlete who qualifies for the U.S. team and does not have a passport may lose the opportunity to the next in line.
