Women’s College Opens over the weekend: Wasps Open, Women’s West Coast TOC, Senior Nationals

Each week as appropriate, USA Wrestling will post the results from women’s college open tournaments from the weekend.
This past weekend, there were two college events, one on each coast, the Wasps Women’s Open in Virginia and the Women’s West Coast Tournament of Championships in California. In addition, a large number of current college varsity athletes entered the Senior Nationals in Texas, with a dozen college varsity student-athletes earning spots in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
Wasps Women’s Open (at Emory & Henry)
Summary: Numerous colleges from the southeast USA came together for the Wasps Open. NCAA No. 13 Presbyterian had the most individual champions with four: Charlize Shuler (116), Madeline Kubicki (143), Henlee Haynes (170) and Ella Beam (191). NCAA No. 3 King had a pair of champions, Mia Zuniga (101) and Victoria Baez Dilone (130). Other individual champions were Dinayah Vazquez of NCAA No. 20 Emmanuel College (109), Trinity Howard of NAIA Montreat (123), Hailie Misplay of NCAA Greensboro (136) and Molly Keller of NCAA Emory & Henry (155).

Summary: In the team standings of the Women’s West Coast Tournament of Champions, NAIA No. 8 Menlo College won the title with 258 points, with NJCAA No. x Umpqua CC in second with 109 points and NAIA Wayland Baptist in third with 101 points. Menlo dominated with eight champions: Micaela Correa (109), Ajayzee Zaballos (116), Alana Vivas (123), Louisa Schwab (130), Samantha Barragan (136), Desiree Jones (143), Shannon Workinger (155) and Tavia Heidelberg-Tillotson (191). At Fort Worth, Texas, December 17, 2023
Summary: A large number of college varsity wrestlers competed at the Senior Nationals, seeking to earn a spot in the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Penn State, April 19-20. The top five in each weight class qualified to compete in the Trials, which we list in this summary. Sage Mortimer (TMWC/Grand Valley State) was the champion at 50 kg. Runners-up include Samara Chavez (Team Tornado WC/King) at 50 kg and Marlynne Deede (Iowa Women’s WC/Iowa) at 76 kg. Third Place finishers were Kendra Ryan (Cardinal WC/North Central) at 50 kg, Shelby Moore (Bearcat WC/McKendree) at 57 kg and Alara Boyd (Cardinal WC/North Central) at 68 kg. Taking fourth place were Kaelani Shufeldt (CA/Lock Haven) at 50 kg and Cristelle Rodriguez (Tiger WC/Doane at 57 kg). Fifth place finishers were Mia Palumbo (IL/Aurora) at 50 kg, Sydney Petzinger (Cardinal WC/North Central) at 53 kg. Cameron Guerin (Titan Mercury WC/McKendree) at 57 kg and Rose Cassioppi (Iowa Women’s WC/Iowa) at 76 kg.
