Iran wins team title at U20 Worlds in Greco-Roman; USA places 11th, with five in the top 10

AMMAN, Jordan – The U20 World Championships concluded today with the Group Two of Greco-Roman holding its repechage and medal matches. No U.S. wrestlers qualified to compete on Sunday.


Iran won the team title with 162 points, led by three champions and six total medalists. Georgia was second with 89 points and Armenia was third with 88 points.


The United States placed 11th, with five athletes scoring points by placing in the top 10 of their weight classes. Although no USA athletes from Group Two competed today. Braden Stauffenberg of Illinois scored team points by placing ninth at 72 kg. Stauffenberg went 1-1 for the event and scored a pin in his first match.


Other U.S. place winners from Group One were Landon Drury of Colorado (5th at 63 kg), Wyatt Voelker of Iowa (5th at 87 kg), Aden Attao of Idaho (7th at 130 kg) and Zachary Silvis of Minnesota (8th at 55 kg). The USA was fifth in the team standings after the first five weight classes were completed.


The United States had 13 medals in the U20 World Championships, eight in men’s freestyle and five in women’s freestyle.
