BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University athletic department announced today that the Huskies' wrestling program will be opting-in to the 2020-21 season.

The season will get underway on Wednesday, February 3, when the program will conduct its wrestle-offs at 6:00 p.m. inside the Nelson Field House. Due to COVID-19 protocols, fans will not be permitted for the event.

Head coach Marcus Gordon, entering his fifth season at the helm of the program, is working towards finalizing the remainder of the 2020-21 schedule. Currently, on the docket are trips to Hofstra University on Saturday, February 6, and to Rider University on Thursday, February 11. The Huskies are also scheduled to compete against Drexel University during each of those tri-meets.

"I want to thank our Athletic Director Dr. McFarland, our medical staff, and our president Dr. Hanna for their efforts during these unusual times to make it possible for our student-athletes to have a season," said Gordon. "We have not been on the mat since last March when we were preparing for the NCAA Championships, so I am very excited to get our guys back in the room and continue to improve from where they left off last season."

The Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships are scheduled to be held in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, on February 26 and February 27, with Rider serving as this year's tournament host. The 2021 NCAA Division I National Championships will occur in St. Louis, Missouri, from March 18 to March 20.

Bloomsburg will open the year with two grapplers garnering national attention - junior Alex Carida (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) and redshirt sophomore Josh Mason (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain). Last month, both were ranked in a pair of national polls as announced by FloWrestling and TheOpenMat. Carida, who competes at 157 pounds, was ranked 25th in the FloWrestling rankings and 26th in TheOpenMat poll, while Mason, a 133-pounder, was 25th and 28th, respectively.

Since the season opened, Carida has climbed to 24th according to FloWrestling and 22nd according to TheOpenMat. Mason, meanwhile, has moved to 21st and 23rd, respectively.
