USA Wrestling seeks to hire a Director of Safe Sport to lead the organization in Athlete Safety and misconduct education, training, guidelines and adjudication activities.
USA Wrestling is the National Governing Body for amateur wrestling in the United States, recognized by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Our staff of 43 employees is involved in amateur wrestling at every level, with 250,000 members spanning from first-year youth wrestlers all the way to World and Olympic team members at the senior level. USA Wrestling is based in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado, where there are many outdoor and recreational activities and a very affordable cost of living as compared other metropolitan areas.

Director of Safe Sport: Job Description
This Director of Safe Sport shall oversee, coordinate, develop and communicate all aspects of USA Wrestling’s Safe Sport and related policies, guidelines, educational programs, reporting and adjudication activities. This position will lead USA Wrestling efforts in the promotion of training and competition environments that are safe and healthy for all participants. The Director of Safe Sport will provide guidance to the Executive Director and the Board regarding USA Wrestling Safe Sport Policy and amendments thereto. The Director of Safe Sport is responsible for the maintenance of a Safe Sport Program Handbook, curriculum, training and other outreach materials, all of which together are designed to ensure that USA Wrestling’s Safe Sport Policy is successfully implemented at the national, state and local level. In addition to serving as an advocate for Safe Sport, this position will also be required to foster within the wrestling community a cultural shift toward compliance with, and enforcement of, not only Safe Sport but all other applicable USA Wrestling codes of conduct, rules and policies. Reports directly to the Executive Director.
Essential Functions
• Provide leadership, vision, and oversight of USA Wrestling’s Safe Sport Policy and Program.
• Direct Safe Sport policy development, revisions and promote implementation of best practices.
• Oversee Safe Sport educational initiatives and Safe Sport compliance, whether via in-house development of such initiatives or in coordination with outside subject matter experts.
• Manage relevant committees and ensure their active participation in policy development, review and the creation of best practices.
• Understand and work as necessary to support the administrative process for complaint resolution and member grievances.
• Be responsive to complaints and inquiries regarding possible Safe Sport violations
• Understand and as necessary work to support and meet USA Wrestling reporting obligations, including reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
• Serve as necessary as the USA Wrestling designee for the U.S. Center for Safe Sport and provide reporting to same and/or United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).
• Serve as liaison to other National Governing Bodies (NGBs) in the area of Safe Sport; be primary point of contact to other youth-serving and professional organizations on youth and Safe Sport issues.
• Understand and participate as necessary in developing curriculum and training related to background screening consistent with USA Wrestling’s Background Screening Policy.
• Provide updates as appropriate on the progress and status of safe sport matters.
• Coordinate and oversee the development of educational tools and resources for clubs, parents, athletes, professional members and staff.
• Such other activities as reasonably requested by the Executive Director.
