Pin of the Week: Cody Brewer pins Nico Megaludis in the 2019 U.S. Open finals
by Mike Willis, USA Wrestling
Trailing, 3-0, in the second period of the U.S. Open finals, Cody Brewer executed a beautiful throw to secure a fall over Nico Megaludis and claim an Open title.
Both Brewer and Megaludis were collegiate stars. Brewer wrestled for Oklahoma, where he was a four-time All-American and NCAA champion. Megaludis was a four-time All-American, three-time finalist and NCAA champion for Penn State. The pair never wrestled in college due to Brewer competing at 133 pounds and Megaludis wrestling at 125 pounds.
Megaludis would get revenge on Brewer less than a month later at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament, defeating him in the true-second match to claim a spot on the National Team for a second-straight year.
